It's Spring in Australia

The exhibition held at Red Gallery was a fabulous one full of such diverse works on paper. I sold several pieces which was fabulous and I also purchased a 3D collage work called Sinker by Paul Compton. Paul was an art student when I was at RMIT and I have always loved the diversity in his art. Always a bit surreal which I love.

Having made a series of four large digital works to a theme is quite unusual for me as I usually work in a more instinctive way. I made these four limited edition digital images under the title Visible Invisible. Don’t you sometimes feel that you are invisible to other people?

I recently was commissioned to make something for a beautiful new renovated dining room and happened to show the client these works which were under wraps as I have not yet exhibited them. The client loved them and decided to take them all which was an enormous thrill for me.

If you are on instagram please look me up as I am making some fun stop motion animations that people are enjoying according to the comments I am getting. Execution is pretty ordinary, bad lighting, bad continuity, badly tilted camera. I love putting together strange sound/music to the stop motion pieces just to add a further surreal element. I have been told several times that they are very like the stop motion bits on Monty Python. I hope you will have a look and send me a comment.

Happy Spring.

New things in my new shop.

I have put some analogue collage cards in the shop for the first time. Often I play with collage late into the evening and if you are on instagram you would have seen these posts often referred to as ephemeral. I have decided that I would keep some of them and make them cards. I use either Fabriano or Arches 300gsm smooth paper, sign them on the back and provide a brown Kraft envelope. These are original hybrids, great fun to make and are a bit dadaesque.

I always make cards for the Alphington Open Studios and have been told that they are sometimes collected and then framed by the purchaser.

The artwork in the shop can be posted Australia wide for free.

On a different subject I would like to tell you about Gertrude & Smith, a new venture by my son. He commissioned me to make some gift cards to include in his new on-line gift box (hamper) business. I have also been styling for his photographer and have had several of my paintings featured in his pictures.

Please have a look at his site and keep him in mind for that very special person you need a gift for. He is curating gifts from all over Australia, working with people that care about sustainability and are artisan small batch makers.

Exhibitions at Red Gallery and Lord Coconut

In July I will be exhibiting at Red Gallery in North Fitzroy with a group (unknown to me) exhibition called Paperlicious. Not sure yet how many pieces but around 6-8 I would think. The work will be surreal hybrids, dadaesque in style, on Arches or Fabriano 300gsm paper. Some works framed and others unframed. Will post the invitation when it is available.

A fun exhibition is also coming up at Lord Coconut where we all had to make a small artwork incorporating a vintage test tube. Will let you know when that is on as well.

My website now has a Shop for sales of some selected art works. Send me a message if you need any further information about any postings.

Please let me know if you would like to know anything about my art practice.

Hope if you are in Melbourne you are keeping warm.

I’ll be in touch.

Hello it's cold.

Nearly Winter in Melbourne Australia but I suppose we shouldn’t complain because we don’t get so cold that it snows. Hope if you are nearby that you are keeping warm and that if you are in the Northern hemisphere that you are getting some sunshine.

I am preparing for a small fundraising exhibition here in Alphington. One of our beautiful artists has Motor Neuron Disease so we are fundraising for MND Victoria. They are only partly government funded so they need public support in order to assist those with MND and their families to cope.

The artwork generously provided is by the artists that come here for classes, myself and by kind artist friends that are also donating. As the event is in my home it is by invitation only (just let me know if you would like to be included).

I’ll post a few pictures of some of the work.
